Stone steps rising between two narrow walls, both covered on either side in a reddish-brown zigzag painted pattern — peeling in places, but remarkably well preserved in many others. At the top of the stairs, a round window lets in light, and on the right, through an arched opening, the yellow-painted ceiling of another stairway branch is visible.
This zigzag pattern is the same one already glimpsed only in fragments, crumbling, on the hall walls in exhibit No. 88. Here, higher up and in a less-used stairwell, it survives far more completely, making it clear what actually covered the walls: not an isolated fragment, but a continuous painted frieze that once decorated more than one staircase or hall in this building.
As in the other exhibits in this series, the animation only shifts the camera barely perceptibly — the frame is already real and in colour.
