This watercolour is artist Napoleon Orda's (1807–1883) 1875–1877 view of the Lentvaris manor estate from the lake (west) side. On the left stands another cluster of the estate's buildings with a small tower; on the right, the palace itself with its tower, reflected in the still surface of the lake. The drawing captures the palace before its later Gothic Revival rebuilding — as it looked when Count Juozapas Tiškevičius first built it in 1855–1865. Napoleon Orda, a participant in the 1831 uprising who had studied in Paris under the landscape master Pierre Girard, travelled across Lithuania from 1856 onward drawing its manors and castles — his watercolours are today among the most valuable records of a vanishing heritage.
