This photograph, taken at the studio of Jan Mieczkowski, the most celebrated photographer in Warsaw at the time, shows Maria Krystyna Lubomirska — the future mistress of the Lentvaris palace. She wears an elaborately embroidered ceremonial gown, a long velvet mantle trimmed with ermine, and a pearl tiara — attire worn on special occasions in the late 19th century.
In 1892, Maria Krystyna married Count Vladislovas Tyszkiewicz and became mistress of the Lentvaris estate. Mieczkowski's studio on Miodowa Street was among the most prestigious in Warsaw — aristocratic families commissioned such ceremonial portraits for the most important occasions in life, weddings among them.
The animation brings the moment to life with movement: Maria Krystyna, standing in profile, turns toward the viewer, then lowers her gaze — as if checking the folds of her long train on the stairs.
