At the ornately carved palace doors, a family, staff, and officers posed for a photograph — one of them wearing a Red Cross armband. The uniforms belong not to Soviet, but to Imperial Russian Army officers: the Soviet Union and the Red Army did not yet exist — this photograph was taken during the First World War, around 1914–1915.
During the war, the palace's owner, Count Vladislovas Tyszkiewicz, gave his residence over to the Red Cross — a hospital for wounded soldiers was set up here. Empress Alexandra of Russia herself was photographed inspecting the care of the wounded at Lentvaris (Landwarow) railway station (Science Museum Group archive, Daily Herald Collection).
The animation brings the scene to life with subtle motion while keeping its original tone: one woman raises her hand to her hat, while the other faces stay still — a moment at the door, behind which a war-touched life was unfolding at the time.
