This old photograph is one of the earliest known images of the Lentvaris manor palace, taken before its late-19th-century rebuilding: above the treeline rises a tower crowned with four corner turrets and a clock, and below it, the palace itself on a hill by the lake. In 1891 Vladislovas Tiškevičius inherited the estate and hired architects to rebuild the palace, giving it the more graceful neo-Gothic appearance it has today. Unlike the Orda drawings and the old engraving elsewhere in this exhibition, this is a real photograph from the period — direct evidence of how the palace looked before that rebuilding.
